Jesus is the nephew of Celia Portillo. Celia’s coffee will be back this fall, but in the meantime, we have this beautiful, well-rounded and balanced Typica lot.
ABOUT JESUS "CHUNGO" GALEAS
Jesus has played a vital role in motivating his community to focus on specialty microlot coffee, largely through his seven years with the Honduran Coffee Institute (IHCAFE). There, he supported farmers across the country with soil analysis, harvesting, and processing, always aiming to inspire them to adopt better practices and pursue specialty coffee.
In 2018, this work led him to connect with former IHCAFE colleague Rony Gamez, who had founded Café Raga to provide technical support to specialty producers. Jesus brought Rony samples from Selguapa, and from just two interested farmers, the Los Ramirez group quickly grew to 30 producers in a single year.
Jesus now farms in Selguapa at La Falda and in Intibuca at La Valeria, a farm he inherited at 17. Starting with one manzana in 2010, he expanded it to 5 hectares through hard work and loans, planting Pacamara, Catuai, Paraneima, Bourbon, and IH-90.
