GREGORIO (Guatemala)
Tasting notes : MELTING CHERRY BLOSSOM
A word from Gregorio Munoz:
80 years ago, my great-grandfather planted his first coffee tree. Since then, it is the livelihood that allows us to survive. It is the only plantation in the region that can give us enough work to meet our needs.
Our sword of Damocles is mining, which we must constantly fight with the help of Mother Nature to defend our lands and prevent contamination of our environment.
Gregorio lives in Las Mesas, one of the villages furthest from the center of Mataquescuintla. Perched at an altitude of 1900 meters, he cultivates a small plot of 3 hectares alongside his brother René and their brother-in-law, Irineo Ramirez.
Like most growers in Mataquescuintla, Gregorio sold his coffee cherries whole year round to fund the sale of his 10 bags of washed coffee. It has the potential to harvest around 20 bags per year.
This is the third year in a row that we have bought all of his harvest, which has only 10 150lb bags this year.
