NGUISSE (Ethiopia)
Tasting notes : BLUEBERRY JAM, FUZZY PEACH, JASMIN TEA
The Nguisse Nare farm in Setame is located at 2300 MASL in Bombe and is a great example of sustainable coffee farming. It grows the 74158 variety mixed with taro and sweet potatoes, which makes its agroecosystem truly diverse. In addition to this farm, Nguisse has two others in Kokose and Tiburo, focusing on natural and anaerobic coffees, using cherries from his own farm as well as those from nearly 60 neighbors.
When Maya from Crop To Cup visited the farm last December, she had the chance to chat with Thomas Tosha, the farm manager, and Demisse Turuma, the post-harvest processing expert. They showed her the drying station and shared Nguisse's commitment to quality. He takes the time to float the cherries before drying them on raised beds for 20 days, which really enhances the flavors of his coffee. While sharing a traditional meal, she was able to gain a deeper understanding of the farm's operations and the passion that drives Nguisse to do all of this.
