Tasting notes : MELTING CHERRY BLOSSOM
A word from Gregorio Munoz:
80 years ago, my great-grandfather planted his first coffee tree. Since then, it is the livelihood that allows us to survive. It is the only plantation in the region that can give us enough work to meet our needs.
Our sword of Damocles is mining, which we must constantly fight with the help of Mother Nature to defend our lands and prevent contamination of our environment.
Gregorio lives in Las Mesas, one of the most remote villages in the center of Mataquescuintla. Perched at an altitude of 1900 meters, he cultivates a small 3-hectare plot alongside his brother René and their brother-in-law, Irineo Ramirez.
Like most producers in Mataquescuintla, Gregorio has sold his whole coffee cherries throughout the year to finance the sale of his 10 sacks of washed coffee. He has the potential to harvest around 20 sacks per year.
This is the fifth consecutive year (Wow, time flies!) that we are purchasing his entire harvest, which only amounts to 10 sacks of 150lb this year.
