WHAT THIS COFFEE REPRESENTS TO US

We had been waiting for the right moment to finally feature a Peruvian coffee on our menu. We turned to our importing friends at APEX COFFEE, knowing they were already collaborating with ORIGIN COFFEE LAB, and having enjoyed their coffees on several occasions in the past.

ABOUT ORIGIN COFFEE LAB

Origin Coffee Lab is a private company founded in 2016 by Jose Rivera and Mariagracia Echeandia, two Peruvians who have worked in the coffee industry since their youth. Their goal is to provide coffee producers with the tools needed to implement lasting, sustainable change.

First, they offer premiums well above local market prices, ensuring better income for producers.

Second, they teach economic modeling and best agricultural practices to build a strong foundation for long-term success and profitability. OCL also supports various initiatives aimed at improving the quality of future harvests. Recently, the company invested in building a warehouse for green coffee storage and sorting, as well as installing a new vacuum packaging line for microlots and nanolots. In addition, they provide buyers with pricing information to ensure full transparency throughout the supply chain.

ABOUT THE LAS MISHAS BLEND

This community blend is grown by seven certified organic smallholder producers living in the small communities of Bomboca and Vista Alegre, in the district of Colasay. Colasay is one of the few areas in northern Peru that has maintained its independence from large cooperatives, allowing producers to continue cultivating traditional varieties over the years.

Origin Coffee Lab operates a local collection point and offers numerous workshops on processing methods. The feedback loop is highly effective, leading to significant improvements in both quality and yield.

The coffees selected for this lot underwent a short cherry fermentation before being depulped, resulting in a flavor profile described as “Fruta Madura” (ripe fruit), characterized by notes of dark fruit and pronounced sweetness. Each lot was evaluated separately at the collection point before being approved for inclusion in this high-quality blend. This collaborative and methodical approach reflects the producers’ expertise and commitment to quality, while delivering a balanced, expressive coffee that represents the unique terroir of northern Peru.
